Dear NCPS Families,
We continue to be deeply shocked and saddened by yesterday’s events at the Covenant School in Nashville, Tennessee.
As our students watch T.V. and listen to the news, they may learn about the shooting. Please know that if your child has questions or concerns, our counselors, social workers, and administrators are ready to assist. Our practice is to encourage students to speak to a family member, counselor, or trusted adult if they need help processing the news. I am including a few resources providing information on these challenging discussions. The resources include “Talking to Children About Violence: Tips for Parents and Teachers” and the “American Association of Pediatrics: Talking to Children About Tragedies & Other News Events.”
We want to assure you that the safety of our students is our top priority. We regularly communicate with Sheriff Doughty, Northampton County Sheriff’s Department, to ensure the safety and security of our students and staff'. We are constantly reviewing our security measures to ensure we do everything we can to protect our students and staff. We urge everyone to speak up and reach out to the school administration and the NCPS Central Office if they see or hear anything that could represent a potential threat to school safety.
Our focus will continue to be on our students’ mental, emotional, and physical well-being. Please join us in keeping the Nashville community in our thoughts now. Thank you for your support.
Educationally yours,
Lisa L. Martin, Ph.D.
